Phone networks

Student marketing for phone networks.

New students need a plan, a SIM and data from their first week. Here is how mobile networks and SIM brands reach them on campus.

The problem

Every new student needs data from day one.

Students live on their phones. 88% of internet users aged 16 to 29 in Ireland use social networks (CSO, Household Digital Consumer Behaviour 2025), and a student without data is a student without their timetable, their group chats or their maps.

In 2024/25, 48,485 students started college in Ireland and 44,535 students came from outside Ireland (HEA Key Facts and Figures 2024/25). Many international students arrive needing an Irish SIM in their first days. Irish students move on to their own bill pay or switch to a cheaper plan.

For a student plan, the moment of need comes in the first weeks of term, and much of it happens on campus.

How it fits

Where campus postering and sampling fit.

  1. 01

    Posters on arrival

A3 posters across campus and student housing in the first weeks of term, with a QR to your student plan.

  2. 02

    Freshers' stands

Stands booked through each students' union, with SIM packs or offers where permitted.

  3. 03

    SIM sampling

Free SIM packs handed out where the campus or students' union allows it.

  4. 04

    International students

Placement near the spaces new international students use, within each campus's rules.

  5. 05

    Switching moments

January and the start of the second semester, when students review their plans.

  6. 06

    Student social content

Student creators showing the plan in use, timed to the campus activity.

Timing

When it works best.

  • August and September: arrivals, Freshers' and the first week of term.
  • January: second semester and new arrivals.
  • April to May: summer travel and roaming.
What a campaign includes

Exactly what you get.

No guesswork: these are the parts of every StudentLink campaign.

  1. 01

  2. 02

    Print

A3 posters, plus a full reserve set for replacements.

  3. 03

    Placement

Campus buildings, students' union areas, library approaches, canteen corridors and the student neighbourhoods nearby, within each campus's rules.

  4. 04

    Monitoring

Two checks during the run. Anything removed, damaged or covered is replaced from the reserve at no extra charge.

  5. 05

    Proof

Photos when the posters go up, and a campaign report at the end.

  6. 06

    Payment

A deposit secures the dates and your category. The balance is due on the campaign report.

FAQ

Questions we get asked.

Can you hand out SIM cards on campus?

Where the college or students' union allows it, for example at a Freshers' fair stand. We confirm the rules for each campus before you book.

Do you reach international students?

We plan placements near the spaces international students use where each campus allows it. In 2024/25, 44,535 students in Irish higher education came from outside Ireland (HEA).

Can we track sign ups?

Yes. Each poster carries a QR or code with a campaign tag, so you can see sign ups from the campaign.

Is the category exclusive?

Yes. One advertiser per category per city for each campaign window, so no competing network runs with us in that city at the same time.

How do we start?
