Campus advertising

Campus advertising at Irish universities and colleges.

How university and college advertising works in Ireland: the formats, the rules each campus sets, and how StudentLink runs campus campaigns from artwork to report.

Formats

Ways to advertise on campus.

  1. 01

    Posters and noticeboards

Noticeboards, poster cases and walls in corridors, canteens, libraries and union spaces. Students read them because they look for events and offers there. See campus postering.

  2. 02

    Students' union media

Many students' unions sell their own advertising, stands and sponsorship, for example TU Dublin SU marketing opportunities and UCC SU advertising.

  3. 03

    Digital screens

Some campuses and student residences carry digital screens run by media owners. They suit a short, high frequency burst.

  4. 04

    Freshers' fairs and stands

Stands booked through each students' union, at the busiest moment of the year. See Freshers' week marketing.

  5. 05

    Sampling

Product handed out on campus where permitted, and in the streets and housing around it. See sampling and promotions.

  6. 06

    Student neighbourhoods

Approved boards and walls in areas where students live, such as Grangegorman, Phibsborough and the Liberties in Dublin.

The rules

Every campus sets its own rules.

There is no single body for campus advertising in Ireland. Each college, and often its students' union, decides what outside brands can do. Published examples:

We confirm what is possible at each campus before you book, and we work within those rules.

How we run it

From artwork to report.

StudentLink's Campus Environment Media is a managed poster product. One team designs or adapts your artwork, prints it with a full reserve set, places it across campus buildings and the student neighbourhoods nearby, checks it twice, and reports at the end. Our own placements include Trinity College Dublin and TU Dublin Grangegorman (photographed April 2026).

A deposit secures the dates and your category exclusivity: one advertiser per category per city for each window. The balance is due on the campaign report.

FAQ

Campus advertising questions.

Can any brand advertise on an Irish campus?

Most campuses accept outside advertising, but each sets its own rules and many route it through the students' union or a campus office. DCU needs prior approval, and University of Galway limits outside posters to designated boards at A3.

Can alcohol brands advertise on campus?

Often not. DCU's advertising policy bars alcohol, and University of Galway's societies handbook bars pubs, nightclubs and alcohol sellers. Bar promotions off campus are usually the better route.

What size are campus posters?

A3 is the usual size and is what most noticeboards are built for. We print a full reserve set so any covered or removed poster is replaced.

Do you sell students' union media?

Students' unions such as TU Dublin SU and UCC SU sell their own marketing opportunities directly. We plan around them and can combine them with our own campus and neighbourhood placements.

How long should a campus campaign run?

A typical StudentLink run is five weeks with twenty placements, checked twice. Shorter bursts suit Freshers' or a launch date.
